Subject: [ncramembers] Regulatory change: 28 days of written logs instead
of 1 year
To: NCRA Members <ncramembers at ncra.ca>
Hi members,
I'm writing to let you know that, as we anticipated, the CRTC has finally
changed the logging sections of the Radio Regulations to reflect the
content of the 2014 Commercial Radio Policy, which affects all radio
sectors including ours.
The old version of s. 8 of the Regs required stations to keep written logs
for one year. The new version only requires stations to keep written logs
for 28 days. This is probably exciting news for stations that are still
keeping logs on paper because it drastically reduces the amount of paper
you have to store at your stations. I would recommend building in a buffer
and keeping logs for a couple of extra weeks just in case a problem
arises. But you no longer have to keep a years' worth of logs on hand.
The specific changes are as follows:
Old version:
*8.* (1) Except otherwise provided under a condition of its licence, a
licensee shall
-
(*a*) keep, in a form acceptable to the Commission, a program log or a
machine readable record of the matter broadcast by the licensee;
-
(*b*) retain the log or record for a period of *one year* after the date
when the matter was broadcast; and
New version:
*8.* (1) Except otherwise provided under a condition of its licence, a
licensee shall
-
(*a*) keep, in a form acceptable to the Commission, a program log or a
record of the matter broadcast by the licensee;
-
(*b*) retain the log or record for a period of *four weeks* after the
date when the matter was broadcast; and
Other minor changes were also made, including removing the antiquated terms
"machine readable" and "tape" throughout the log sections of the
Regulations.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Freya
