Here is the latest Alternative Radio Newsletter giving us another window
into the contraction of important information despite the increased
opportunities for broadcast access. Also a heads up to our next generation
of LPFM stations.

February 10, 2015 AR Updates
Dear AR Listener,
*Some good news* - AR is auditioning on WCPN-Cleveland this month on
Tuesday nights at 10, and we continue to get surprising "drop-in" airtime
on Pacifica stations WBAI-New York and KPFK-Los Angeles. WPFW-Washington,
DC even aired Michelle Alexander - Race & Caste in the U.S.
Also, in late December, AR received timely support from the Wallace Action
Fund and the Cloud Foundation; timely in that after the holiday shopping
season is over, our income from CDs and downloads tend to drop off.
Increasingly, AR is forced to rely on donations to pay the bills.
*The Bad* - Longtime AR flagship station WMNF-Tampa/St Pete dropped us from
their schedule and replaced us with a pet show. And, longtime affiliate
KUOW-Seattle moved AR to zombieland - 11-midnight on Wednesdays.
KUFM-Montana Public Radio moved us from Mondays 1-2PM to Sundays 7-8PM.
Sunday evenings.
*The Ugly* - The steady trend to the right in public broadcasting continues
unabated. In The Decline & Fall of Public Broadcasting

(2001) AR Founder and Director David Barsamian wrote about the shrinking
access to public airwaves in spite of technological advances. Since writing
that book, David says, everything has gotten much worse. The space for
dissidence is contracting. Programs like AR are taken off the air to be
replaced with cooking shows (KCBX-San Luis Obispo) or the above mentioned
pet show on (WMNF-Tampa).
Also, the government of India has just denied David's visa application. Due
to his work on Kashmir and other revolts, he has been barred from traveling
to India since 2011.
Undaunted by these setbacks, AR will provide perspectives and insights not
available elsewhere. We continue to discover new and exciting voices in
addition to some of our stalwarts. But we need your continued support. Tell
your friends, family and colleagues about us. Lots of people are signing up
for MP3 subscriptions-an eco-friendly way to get AR.
