Dear Radio Root Strikers(1),
The new year is well under way, and we're excited to share some news
with you all (read: Shameless Self Promotion)!
Introducing Phantom Machine Works
During the GRC in Ames last summer several people approached Todd and
me about putting together some low-cost audio chain devices that would
be appropriate for a typical LPFM, full-power community (or even
commercial) radio station! We have been working hard on several
devices that should fulfill crucial needs.
First, there's the compressor/limiter that we're currently calling the
NABRO (http://opensourceradio.org/index.php/NABRO).
Second, we've got a pair of devices that work as a
studio-to-transmitter and/or studio-to-webstream link over the public
(or private) Internet. If your transmitter is more than 50 feet from
your studio you'll probably need something like this.
We've also spent a huge amount of time building a "radio station in a
box" -- a cutting-edge radio automation system (based on the Rivendell
radio automation package) that will knock your socks off! We can
customize this in several different ways to suit your station's needs.
It can even take the place of a matrix switcher!
We're working on other devices (all of which integrate nicely with Al
Davis' modular mixing boards). The next device we intend to knock out
is the p-delay, a profanity delay with a configurable delay buffer.
After that comes the remote broadcast unit.
We're still trying to figure out pricing for all this stuff, but rest
assured that all of our devices will cost significantly less than
products currently on the market. We will offer discounts to community
stations. You also get the BEST tech support in the biz, and as active
community radio guys, we truly understand where you are coming from.
Or, if you've got some tech-savvy folks at your stations feel free to
read the plans and documentation, download our software and do it all
yourselves! Everything is open source, including our hardware shopping
lists.
Our goal for 2015 is to help as many LPFM stations as possible, to
meet their CP deadline!
To help pay the bills so that goal can be realized, we are offering
turnkey appliances, paid 24/7 tech support, and individualized
consulting. We would love to hold your hand while building or
upgrading your station and enjoy finding the best solutions for your
needs.
Head on over to opensourceradio.org for more details, or feel free to
write or call me (414-939-0841) or Todd (608-286-2667) to talk about
any of this. Another great way to contact us is by email at
<mailto:info at phantommachineworks.com> (reaches both of us).
Very best wishes for a fabulous and static-free 2015!
