Howdy-
We here at KUHS-LP in Hot Springs, AR. are going full solar on the TX
shack. It solves so many problems.
We would have had to run new poles to our transmitter building. We need to
be up 24/7 to deliver local emergency information.
We didn't want to "improve" our free loaned TX site and create a higher tax
evaluation for our owner. (by electrifying it)
And, we garnered tremendous donations by going solar. People Love to
sponsor a solar panel. We were able to buy a whole
palette of German panels- enabling us to even make the studio front awning
out of panels. I'm sure it is what made our Kickstarter campaign run like
wildfire.
Solar is so cheap now as well. 200W panels I paid $800 for in 2000 are $129
now. We are using 12 for the TX shack.
Batteries are off the shelf Sam's warehouse units. It's so easy.
In any case, we are glad to help anyone else do this. (as soon as we get on
the air in May!)
