[grc] [NFCB List] Article about WRFG - Atlanta

Hi Heather and all,
I hope I was not misunderstood, and was not meaning tio infer that WRFG was neglecting
it's community. Assessing community needs and making changes to adapt to a different world
is a part of every non-commercial station operation in the US. It has to be. As Lorenzo Milam
used to say, it can be like rock gardening in an obscure place, but does not have to be, and
should be a community effort as much as possible.
To Max, all I can say to your questions is that the big signal over the Atlanta metro is pretty
essential for reaching everyone in this major city. What WRGF had before was a limited signal,
and many who wanted to listen could not hear it. I agree that the tower arrangements are a work
in progress, and Heather knows this better than I do!
I wish WRFG all the best, and I hope that this will all be worked out for the better.

Sincerely,

Don Mussell
Consulting Engineer

Possibly this is in the "shows your ignorance" category ...

Would it kill WFRG to move down to a cheaper tower and/or lower power to save money ... see if you jad enoigj rural listeners to bother?

Small towns have been shrinking and dying for decades and becoming more and more homogenously white and conservative (and not likely listeners/doners) ... so maybe its not worth the power ...

Sincerely, Max

Dear Don and All:

While it¹s true that we managed to move our new tower location 8 years
ago, the challenge we face is that Richland Towers that owned the original
contract was sold to American Tower. We were able to negotiate with
Richland with the ebb and flow of the fund drives but not so with American
so we are needing to go back to the drawing board as it were.

Believe me - we recognize the importance of what we have. We always need
to raise more money even and especially in the midst of the economic
downturn from 2008 and we are definitely working on that and reassessing
everything - both board and volunteers are doing this - and that¹s a good
thing! Along that line 2 weeks ago we sold our first car at auction, as we
are now part of the car donation initiative that we learned about through
the Pacifica Affiliate Taskforce.

We are thankful for the community radio network altogether and the
assistance of affiliated engineers when we made our move.

Peace,

Heather Gray
