*AMARC launches a fundraising campaign to help rebuild community radios in

*Montreal, May 5, 2015*. On April 25, Nepal was struck by an earthquake
<http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/may/03/most-buildings-in-kathmandu-deemed-uninhabitable-following-quake>
of 7.9 in magnitude. The damages are extensive and numerous aftershocks
have complicated search and rescue work and the delivery of humanitarian
help. The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters
<http://www.amarc.org/> (AMARC) expressed its solidarity with the people of
Nepal and mobilizes its network to support them.

Nepal can count on a strong and vibrant community radio network. Stations
are operating all over the country, even in remote areas. However, the
April 25 earthquake has taken a toll on the network. More than a hundred
radio stations in 30 districts have been affected and are in need of urgent
help.

Our staff from the Asia Pacific office

the ground and hard at work, in collaboration with the Association of
Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal <http://www.acorab.org.np/> (ACORAB),
assessing the status of community radios that have been damaged by the
earthquake. Teams have been deployed in the field and are visiting some of
the most severely impacted districts.

Community radios are a powerful tool in disaster relief situations. They
are an indispensable way to provide reliable information to vulnerable
population, help the humanitarian relief and ease the fear and worries of
the population in tense situations. These radios are deeply rooted in their

vastes et de nombreuses répliques ont compliqué les opérations de recherche et
de sauvetage ainsi que la distribution d'aide humanitaire. L’Association
mondiale des radiodiffuseurs communautaires <http://www.amarc.org/?q=fr>
(AMARC) exprime sa solidarité envers le peuple népalais et mobilise son
réseau afin de leur venir en aide.

Le Népal peut compter sur un réseau de radios communautaires fort et
dynamique. Des stations opèrent partout dans le pays, même dans des régions
éloignées. Toutefois, le tremblement de terre du 25 avril a eu un impact
important sur le réseau. Plus d'une centaine de stations de radio dans 30
districts ont été touchées et ont besoin d'une aide urgente.

Nepal cuenta con una red de estaciones de radio comunitarias fuertes y
dinámicas. Las estaciones operan en todo el país, incluso en las zonas más
remotas. Sin embargo, el terremoto del 25 de abril tuvo un impacto
devastador en la red. Más de un centenar de estaciones de radio en 30
distritos se vieron afectadas y necesitan ayuda urgente.
