Donna and Carol,
Don't forget the role KDPI played during the Sun Valley wild fire last
year in Idaho shortly after Donna, Michael Brown, myself and
volunteers from KRBX put KDPI on the air.
The only local station
providing fire evacuation and safety information in cooperation with
fire officials.
Tom Voorhees.

Thank you for sharing this amazing story! I'll be sure to include
KPFZ's story of service in this year's Grassroots Radio Conference! I
am hostessing a Salon on Live and Remote Emergency Reporting.

 LA Times story today:

"As the Valley fire raced through small communities in Lake and Napa
counties over the weekend, residents were desperate to learn the fate
of
loved ones and to hear when and where to evacuate and how to help
others.

Those with access to computers and working cellphones could take
advantage of resources that would have been unavailable not that long

ago. But for those with only spotty cell service or who lacked mobile

devices or who were cut off from landlines and TVs, there was an old
 standby: radio.

They tuned to — and turned to — KPFZ 88.1 FM, a radio station in
Lakeport that serves the area near Clear Lake. Lakeport sits near the

west edge of the lake, about 21 miles north of Cobb and 29 miles
north
of Middleton, both of which were hit hard by the fire."
