Hi all,
For those who may know of someone looking for a job in community radio and
youth development, ZUMIX is hiring a Youth & Community Radio AmeriCorps
VISTA member. Deadline to apply is September 16th. Here are the details:

*Overview:*

ZUMIX was founded in response to the worst year of gang violence in
Boston's history. In 1991, with $200 and 24 youth, we embarked on a mission
to use music as a tool to empower youth and elevate our community. ZUMIX
provides top-quality music and cultural programming as an alternative way
for young people to deal with frustration, anger, and fear, and as a method
of building cultural understanding and acceptance in a community that has
had the largest demographic shift of any Boston neighborhood over the past
twenty years. Through onsite programming and in-school partnerships, ZUMIX
now serves more than 1,000 participants per year. In 2011 we received the
National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from the White House and
we continue building on that excellence, empowering youth through music.
For more information on our work, please visit www.zumix.org.

*Position Description & Primary Responsibilities:*

ZUMIX Radio was recently awarded a Low Power FM license and will transition
from online to a broadcast radio station in 2016. This unique opportunity
is the result of new legislation to expand community media. ZUMIX Radio
will be the first youth and community radio station to broadcast in the
Boston area, and one of the only youth-driven LPFMs in the country! The
Youth & Community Radio VISTA will serve by leading multiple initiatives,
in collaboration with ZUMIX's Radio Coordinator, to develop our capacity
for our future broadcast station. This is an exciting project within an
award-winning youth arts organization, and a great opportunity for an
enthusiastic, personable, and creative self-starter.

The Youth & Community Radio AmeriCorps VISTA will build the capacity and
sustainability of our new LPFM Radio Station in the following ways:

   - Develop a volunteer program for ZUMIX Radio, recruiting and managing
approximately 50 youth and adult volunteers through a Radio Advisory Board
   and youth mentorship program.
   - Facilitate ZUMIX Radio's Youth Advisory Council, developing curriculum
for approximately 10 youth to engage in decision-making around programming
   and outreach for the station.
   - Develop capacity at East Boston High School for a future radio
station, working with school officials, teachers, and students to plan
curriculum for radio programming at the school.
   - Develop new curriculum for youth and adult DJ training with an
emphasis on creating broadcast radio content relevant to our local
   community.

*Qualifications:*

   - An interest in and commitment to creative youth development, community
   radio, education and community engagement
   - Ability to communicate with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds
   - Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
   - Ability to take initiative and work independently
   - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
   - Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and
   Excel
   - Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
   - Verbal and written Spanish and/or Portuguese proficiency preferred

*Benefits:*

For a one year full-time commitment, AmeriCorps VISTA Members receive: A
taxable living allowance of $14,644 per year, a relocation allowance, a
$5,730 educational award upon completion of service, a $900 MBTA LinkPass
(bus & subway), a Health Benefits Plan, and excellent professional
development opportunities. The selected VISTA candidate will be a member of
the Boston Cares AmeriCorps VISTA program of approximately 25 VISTA members
serving at more than 10 Greater Boston organizations. Pre-Service
Orientation for this position will be held November 17-20th in the Boston
area and the first day of service at ZUMIX will be November 21st.
