Dear All,

As some of you might know February 13 will be World Radio Day (WRD).
UNESCO created a day to celebrate radio in 2011. This year the theme for
the celebration is: “Radio in Emergency and Disaster Situations”.

I was wondering if community radio stations/LPFM radio across the US and
Canada would be interested in organizing/contributing to the February 13
celebration by highlighting the vital role of community radio to
Emergency and Disaster Situations? Themes that can be addressed are vast
and include, but not limited to: freedom of expression in a paradigm of
security and surveillance, “disaster” relief (climate change, protests,
etc.), access to information, among many other take on the meaning of
emergency and disaster situations. Together with Frieda Werden we were
thinking (dreaming!) to possibly have a number of broadcasts from
different LPFM/CR stations to celebrate (Community) WRD and/or audio
contributions that could be shared among stations. Would that be
something of interest for people on this list? Thanks for your feedback!
