An Assistant Director for Independent Media position at the University of California, Santa Barbara, is now open for recruitment.  This manager will oversee KCSB-FM (UCSB's radio station), the weekly newspaper The Bottom Line, and other student media organizations under the auspices of UCSB's Associated Students department.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR INDEPENDENT MEDIA 

Provides leadership, guidance and management in all aspects of Independent Media for Associated Students.  Upholds the ethics of a non-profit, non commercial, public access environment for media across the association.  Advises students to ensure their understanding of these principles. Serves as a member of the AS management team.  Provides continuity and constituency to a 24-hour experiential learning environment in particular for KCSB radio. Oversees the development of training programs in journalistic practices, writing of press releases, ethics and communication skills for students across the association including The Bottom Line, the Executive Officers, AS Senate, and the Creative Media Unit. Supervises KCSB professional and student staff/interns as well as community volunteers ensuring compliance with FCC licensing requirements. Oversees budgets in assignment area. Supervises all space, equipment and maintenance needs in UCSB’s Storke Building. Advises the UCSB Daily Nexus regarding facility issues.

Reqs: Understands principles of non-commercial independent community based media. Fully conversant with FCC and other licensing requirements for non-commercial radio stations and print or web publication. Excellent communication skills oral and written; adept with team development, conflict management and creative problem solving. Understanding of the educational nature of the organization. Management and advising experience in a student-run, student-initiated organization. Notes: Fingerprinting Required. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.
