We’re writing today with some exciting announcements.

Journalism That Matters has received a grant for $150,000 to seed media
innovations in southeast Ohio communities that lack local information.
Using community engagement practices developed from the Journalism That
Matters Framework

we will build the news and information capacity of the region. We’ll be
working in partnership with the Jefferson Center to address the opioid

Dr. Michelle Ferrier, the immediate past president of Journalism That
Matters, is the project director.

The Gather public engagement platform, which Journalism That Matters has
worked to inform and which comes out of the Experience Engagement and
Elevate Engagement gatherings, has launched. Gather is a place to share
information on who we are and what we’re doing in community engagement and

To shepherd in these exciting changes, Ashley Alvarado of KPCC/Southern
California Public Radio has taken on the board president role for
Journalism That Matters. Many of you know Ashley because she already
practices what she preaches. We are so excited to usher in Ashley's
leadership of Journalism That Matters. We hope you will join Ashley and
Journalism That Matters on Gather and follow along with the Media Seeds
