Yes, Audioport is a web site for connecting stations in the Pacifica Affiliate Network. Any producer at an affiliated station should be able to upload and download. Accounts are generally created locally by the program director or station manager. There are a large number of independent producers who also distribute shows at Audioport.org. They upload shows but do not download shows. Jim, I am a big admirer of your station and we would be thrilled to give you an account for uploading shows to Audioport. Let me know if you want to do that. You are right about downloading; non-affiliates do not have access to Audioport (we do make Sprouts Radio From the Grassroots available to all stations in and outside the network) On the other hand, getting Pacifica affiliation is easy and very affordable so the barriers are very low; we are doing what we can to support and encourage community based grassroots production. I will contact Dan Yaseen and see what he is interested in. Thanks everyone for your interest and concern. love ya Ursula Ruedenberg Pacifica & Audioport manager On Fri, Sep 22, 2017 at 12:14 PM, Ann Garrison via grc < grc at maillist.peak.org> wrote: > I had the pleasure of being a guest on Dan Yaseen's show, Speaking Truth to > Empire, on Wednesday and it brought the show to my attention. I'm still recovering from and processing all the great information and conversations we had. Thanks to WCCA for hosting! I'm still putting together some materials to share if anyone would like what we have at Arlington Independent Media (AIM)/WERA-LP. I did speak with some of you about the Library of Congress's Radio Preservation Task Force (RPTF), who reached out to us before I left for Albany. The RPTF is developing a national database with the Association for Recorded Sound Collections to identify, map, and make searchable information regarding historical radio broadcasts and other radio-related materials. Their focus at the moment is on discovering additional collections for this great resource. I've been given permission to share the data collection link with as many radio stations as I'm able: http://arsc-audio2.org/catalog?utf8= Best, Lauree -- Lauree McArdle Operations Manager 703.524.2388 Arlington Independent Media http://www.arlingtonmedia.org WERA-LP 96.7FM http://www.wera.fm From wrirmax at gmail.com Mon Oct 23 03:30:34 2017 From: wrirmax at gmail.com (Max) Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2017 07:30:34 -0300 Subject: [grc] Non POTS options for listeners to call in In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: What creative phone-in solutions have y'all found to replace POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) lines to: 1) have listeners leave a message that could be played on-air later 2) live call-in to on air discussions? It?s been working well for several years now, maximum recording time is ~3 minutes. We tell folks the limit is 2 minutes. One can download the message as mp3. Not high quality but good enoough, and it was easier and better than the voice mail in our phone system. It also sends an email with a transcript that can be quite entertaining to read. You could use Skype for call-ins (costs for phone number), I bet you could use Google Voice for that, too, and calls are free to US and Canada. I don?t know how you?d deal with multiple calls. I bet there are some geeks on this list that could tell us how to use opensource software, Linphone, SIP, stuff like that. Looking for suggestions for vendors for station promotions. We have bumper stickers already, but I'd like to try out a different vendor to compare costs. Does anyone have static window clings? Some have suggested that more people prefer them. I'm open to other vendor suggestions for other items! It had at its disposal a collection of records (mostly classical), a couple mics, a cheap recorder and the semblance of a mixing board built into an old cigar box...'' lee felsenstein, pictured but not mentioned in the article, is still around. he was also a free speech activist, personal computing pioneer, and co-creator of berkeley community memory: ``Community Memory (CM) was the first public computerized bulletin board system. Established in 1973 in Berkeley, California, it used an SDS 940 timesharing system in San Francisco connected via a 110 baud link to a teleprinter at a record store in Berkeley to let users enter and retrieve messages. Individuals could place messages in the computer and then look through the memory for a specific notice. While initially conceived as an information and resource sharing network linking a variety of counter-cultural economic, educational, and social organizations with each other and the public, Community Memory was soon generalized to be an information flea market, by providing unmediated, two-way access to message databases through public computer terminals. Once the system became available, the users demonstrated that it was a general communications medium that could be used for art, literature, journalism, commerce, and social chatter...''
