I concur as well!
But as your current list cop and a sometime server and system
administrator I can tell you that this (moving to a more modern
communication tool) will happen only when someone steps forward to
donate a server and to maintain the software for a web-based forum.
There are plenty of software options available, and plenty of "cloud"
server options too. But I think we would need a bare minimum of three
people to volunteer to manage the system. The listserv we use is
graciously donated by Peak Internet in Oregon and they manage the
physical server and listserv software for us. I've never asked them, but
I doubt they'd donate a server for a web forum (Hint, hint. Anyone?).
