Reports to: Station Manager

Employment Status: Part-time

Hours: 24-32/week

Pay Scale:  $12-$15/hour to start and 3% quarterly commission

Redwood Community Radio  (RCR)-KMUD-FM, KMUE-FM. KLAI-FM AND K258BQ in Shelter Cove is a dynamic community radio station, established in 1987 and driven by a mission of public service. The Underwriting Representative at Redwood Community Radio is the bridge between our radio station and other businesses within our broadcasting range.  As the Underwriting Representative, you are always representing KMUD. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Maintain and update Natural Log software

• Generate reports for BOD and Management as requested

• Write Underwriter announcements using language compliant w/ FCC and CPB guidelines

• Participate in Membership Drives, including solicitation of Thank you Gifts

• Solicitation of Sponsorships for and during events

• Manage billing for Underwriters/Underwriting Accounts Receivable and Collections

• Create bank deposits regularly

• Make bank deposits as directed

• Bring in new Underwriting Contracts

• Maintain and develop relationships with Underwriters

• Respond to Underwriters in a timely fashion

• Manage all correspondence relating to the Underwriting department

• Physical outreach in communities from Fort Bragg to Trinidad to solicit new Underwriting contracts, with this a reliable source of transportation is needed

• Develop Underwriting promotional materials and Package Deals

• Prospect new leads and cold call potential underwriters in the business community 

• Stay abreast of market trends and competitive activity in commercial, public radio, and online media sales

• Maintain accurate records of past and present Underwriting contracts

• Receive and distribute mail as directed

• Ability to maintain confidentiality

• Ability to train and oversee volunteers

• Web advertising sales, design, placement, and maintenance

• Social Media posts

• Create, train, maintain, and track a team of volunteer Underwriting sales reps who will receive a one time, 10% commission, on all new paid Underwriters

• Underwriting Trades are important to RCR, they are required to be maintained, and inventory needs to be tracked regularly, they are NOT included in the commission payments but are part of the job

• Underwriting Trade solicitation

• Underwriting Trade Inventory Tracking

• Underwriting Trade billing and collections

 

Qualifications

• Must possess passion for generating new business

• Ability to maintain excellent customer service skills  

• Must be results-oriented, self-motivated, and professional with impeccable business ethics with ability to work independently

• Must be excellent at time-management and have thorough organizational skills


• Ideal candidate has knowledge of FCC and IRS rules regarding Underwriting language and reasoning behind regulations

• Must have experience building and maintaining relationships with internal co-workers and external contacts

• Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Proficient on both Windows and Mac computers, excel and billing software

• Able to problem-solve, work with others to implement creative solutions

• Have understanding and knowledge of social media marketing

• Ideal candidate will have at least two years as a previous media sales person or underwriting rep

• Preferred candidate has at least 2 years of college education

 

Time Usage

60% Acquisition and maintenance of Underwriters

15% Billing, Underwriting AR, collections

10% Copy editing, scheduling within Natural Logs

10% Other duties

5% Maintain Underwriters on Website/Social Media

 
ADA Essential Functions

Standing/Sitting is required for over 6 hours per day. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

 The Underwriting Representative is a part-time, 24-32 hours per week, non-exempt position with vacation, sick and holiday benefits. Salary range is $12-$15 to start with a 3% quarterly commission on all paid Underwriting/web ad contracts. Additionally all new (within last 15 months) paid underwriting/web ad contracts pay a one-time 10% commission as well. RCR annually observes a 2% cost of living annual increase (COLA).  The COLA is applied on January 1st of each year.


 The Underwriting Representative serves at will in accordance to RCR Policy.
