The deadline for this is also September 1st, and inquiries can be sent directly to me Last, I wanted to leave you with a bit of information about Rochester, so each week, we'll be sending out a little note about what you can look forward to when you visit. This week's focus is on a couple of trailblazers: In addition to being a bustling hive of community radio stations--including five new LPFMs since 2014!--Rochester is a city rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. Rochester has played a major role in the fight for the rights of all people. One of the most famous orators and writers of the 19th century, Frederick Douglass lived in Rochester from 1847 to 1872. In 1847, Douglass began publishing *The North Star*--a periodical devoted to abolitionist issues and current events. Women?s rights activist Susan B. Anthony lived in Rochester from the age of 25 to her death in 1906. In 1872, Anthony was arrested for attempting to vote on Madison Street located on Rochester?s west side. Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass? grave can be found at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Cemetery is also a beautiful location for a hike or bike ride. Anthony?s house is now a museum dedicated to her life and times. I'm pretty sure that at KKFI in Kansas City, that would be considered a double violation, both for mentioning a price ($10) and for a call to action ("come on out and support the band"). ????? Part of that would is probably fine, e.g., "We're playing at McGrew's over in O'Brien tomorrow," and "We'll have our new CD there-- it's our best yet". ?????? Caveat:? I'm the Secretary of the Board of KKFI.? I believe our Programming Committee would be expected to handle this if that went out over the air and got reported to station management.? In that case, I believe that the board operator would be asked to explain why s/he did not use the 7 second delay button to prevent that from going out over the air.? In addition the program host would be asked first if the guest had signed our "Guest instructions" form (https://kkfi.org/programmers-links/).? If the guest did NOT sign that, the host should be disciplined for allowing the person on the air without having signed that form.? If the guest DID sign the form, then the host would be asked if they discussed it with the guest, explaining that we might have to pay a big fine if caught and maybe even taken off the air. ????? I suggest you try "otter" (otter.ai).? It's free for up to 600 minutes (10 hours) per month, and $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year for up to 6,000 minutes (100 hours) per month.? And the turn around time is great:? It produced a reasonable transcript for me from a roughly 90 minute mp4 file in a relatively few minutes.? (Sorry:? I didn't time it.)? It then gives me an editor, where I can listen and correct the problems. ????? It's not perfect, and it would have probably taken me a day to produce a credible transcript.? In this case I decided I did not have either the time nor the need for a perfect transcript.? I stripped out the mp3 audio and used Audacity to edit that down to 54:27 (mm:ss) with the help of that imperfect transcript, and made my deadline for a broadcast on KKFI.[1] I've previously used Trint for that kind of thing.? However, Trint charges $15 per hour and has not performed nearly as well as my one test of Otter.ai. ????? I found this in an article entitled, "The Best Transcription Services for 2019" in PC Magazine 2018-08-22.[2]? The option they recommend is "Rev", which is $1 per minute -- and takes quite a bit longer.? However, even Rev wasn't perfect.? With a 16-minute test sample with 3 speakers, Rev had an error rate of 3% vs. 17% for Otter and 78% for Trint.? In another test with only 2 speakers, Trint had an error rate of 14% vs. 21% for Otter;? Rev was not included in that second test. ????? Spencer Graves ????? Secretary of the Board, KKFI.org ?????
