Hello, All:
I just submitted a proposal to do something on "Creating training
to attract volunteers and audience" at GRC 2019.
I also created a Wikiversity article on "Grassroots media
training".[1]
* If any of you have training resources to share or might
like to build your training program, please feel free to review the
contents there and change it in any way you think would make it better.
Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia and Wikiversity encourage people to
write from a neutral point of view, citing credible sources where
feasible. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and does not accept
instructional material nor original research. Wikiversity's mission is
to share educational and training materials and to support collaborative
research -- e.g., in how to create a training program that helps attract
more volunteers, build your audience, etc.
* KKFI in Kansas City now has a Training Committee, tasked
with building an on-going training program, inspired in part by Lisa
Loving's talk at least year's GRC. This Wikiversity article cites her
"Street Journalist" book.
* In the notes from your June 25th call, Betty mentioned
Nina Simon (2016) "The Art of Relevance". That book is now available
for free on the web[2] -- or you can purchase a paper copy. (She claims
she attracts a wider audience by giving it away -- and sells more paper
copies of the book in doing so!)
If people with other stations collaborate in this training
project, this topic can become a panel discussion and / or workshop at
the GRC. Otherwise, it can be just Spencer talking about what we've
tried in Kansas City.
Thanks for all you do.
