I finally have some news about the International Feminist Radioday!
We would be grateful, if you forward the info on the upcoming International
Day of Feminist Radio on October 21st through your WINGS channels. Find the
press release in German and English below.

It would be great if you can share it, because we would love to widen the
circle of re-broadcasters, contributors and listeners beyond the German
speaking world. It grew already a lot from 6 Free radios in 2018 to more
than 13 participating this year.

*On the 21st of October community radios celebrate the International
Feminist Radioday *

Tune in and listen to over 24 hours of feminist content from over 12
editorial teams in 3 german-speaking countries.
Just like last year we want to broadcast against the patriarchy with
feminist musik, interviews, stories, features, shows and discussions. You
can also be a part of our radio-activism by sharing your own queer-feminist
"every day" story (https://umagaunanmitkaya.noblogs.org/) or by opening the
window, placing your radio on the window sill and blasting it at full
volume.

*Why do we need a feminist radioday?*
The media sector is a cis-male domain. According to a study by the ZHAW
less than 39% of the people who shape what we listen and see in Switzerland
are women. ProQuote claims that only 2 of 12 public radio stations are
directed by women. In these statistics people who identify as trans*, inter
or non-binary are not even visible. Chief editors are usually male, the
images of women and girls in media are full of clichés, many journalists
suffer from sexual assaults at their workplae, topics are distributed
according to gender roles - the list of reasons to focus on feminist media
coverage is long.

Community radios are non-commercial, open and self-determined and have
therefore functioned as platform for those, whos voices are often not
heard. The working conditions for women, inter, non-binary and trans are
therefore less harsh than in mainstream media. Nonetheless patriarchical
power-structures are also present in our field of work. It is mostly male
voices which we hear, also in community radio.

In 2017 many editorial teams met for the feminist radio event "Claim the
Waves" in Zurich. They decided to network and annually claim the airwaves
together on the 21st of October.
Feminist journalsim means to us, that we broadcast our own views, music,
topics and listen to people and stories which are usually ignored.

*The programme*
For your ears we present you the following on the 21st of October 2019:

    - "Ein eigenes Zimmer" ("A room of one’s own"), feature show by Radio
Corax
    - "das mensch - gender queer on air" ("the human - gender queer on air"

    - elector-accoustic live concert by the radio ironie orchester
    - "Umagaunan mit Kaya", queer-feminist feature for your own stories by
Genderfrequenz on Radio Helsinki
    - Discussion from the Spektrum Festival on the topic of "producers"
by Radio T
    - feminist prison show by Radio LoRa (Zurich)
    - "Frauen - Mode - Musik der 80iger" ("Women - Fashion - Music of the
80ies") by Freies Radio Neumünster

As well as shows by Radio blau, bermuda.funk, Radio Orange 94.0, Die Hälfte
des Äthers and La Radio. On top, the feminist garden radio art project
Datscha Radio broadcasts from sunset to sunrise during the night of October
21st to 22nd. Because of course our feminist radio activism goes far beyond
24 hours only!

*Am 21.Oktober ist der Internationale Feministische Radiotag der Freien
Radio!*
Schaltet euer lokales freies Radio ein und hört über 24 Stunden Sendungen
von über 12 feministischen Radio-Redaktionen in 3 deutschsprachigen Ländern.
Wie letztes Jahr beschallen wir an diesem Tag das Patriarchat mit
feministischer Musik, Interviews, Erzählungen, Themensendungen,
Reportagen, Podiumsdiskussionen und hoffen, dass es dabei untergeht.
Auch ihr könnt mitmachen, zum Beispiel indem ihr eure eigenen
queer-feministischen Alltagsgeschichten einschickt (
https://umagaunanmitkaya.noblogs.org/) oder indem ihr euer Radio an diesem
Tag ans offene Fenster stellt und ganz laut aufdreht.

*Wieso feministischer Radiotag?*
Die Medienbranche ist nach wie vor eine cis-Männerdomäne. Laut einer Studie
der ZHAW sind in der Schweiz unter 39% der Menschen, die bestimmen was wir
tagtäglich medial zu hören und sehen bekommen, Frauen. Laut ProQuote werden
in Deutschland nur zwei der zwölf öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten
von Intendantinnen geführt. In solchen Aufzählungen werden Menschen, die
sich als trans*, inter oder non-binär identifizieren gar nicht erst
mitgedacht. Chefredakteure sind meist männlich, die mediale Darstellungen
von Mädchen und Frauen sind meist klischiert, viele
Journalsit_innen erfahren am Arbeitplatz sexuelle Belästigung, Themen
werden nach Geschlechterrollen eingeteilt - die Liste an Gründen,
feministische Berichtserstattung in den Fokus zu rücken ist lang.

Freie Radios als nichtkommerzielle, offene und selbstbestimmte Medien haben
sich schon immer als eine Plattformen für die diejenigen verstanden,
deren Stimmen oft nicht gehört werden. Daher sind die Bedingungen für
journalistische FLINT* (Frauen, Lesben, Inter, Nicht-Binäre und
Trans-Personen) in diesen Medien zu Arbeiten bedeutend besser. Trotzdem
sind auch hier patriarchale Machtstrukturen vorhanden, und vor allem viele
cis-Männer hinter den Mikrofonen zu hören.

2017 haben sich mehrere freie Redaktionen zu den feministischen Radiotagen
"Claim the Waves" in Zürich getroffen und beschlossen, sich zu
vernetzen und gemeinsam den Äther am 21. Oktober zu besetzen.
Feministischer Journalismus heißt für uns, dass FLINT* auf eine
diskrimminierungsarme Art und Weise ihre Meinungen, Musik, Themen und
Menschen in die Öffentlichkeit tragen, welche sonst untergehen würden.

Außerdem sendet auch das feministische Garten Radiokunst Projekt, Datscha
Radio in der Nacht vom 21.-22. Oktober. Denn unser
feministischer Radioaktivismus geht natürlich über 24h hinaus!
