I wrote this piece for Black Agenda Report this week with some help from
Pacifica affiliate WXOX 97.1 FM-Louisville.

For this week's KPFA Saturday Evening News I plan to talk to WXOX DJ Tia
Coakley, who has been involved on the ground there. WXOX is primarily a
music station but what's going on in Louisville is of course making its way
onto its air in one way or another.

I'm sharing this not only because it's about WXOX, but also because
connections made at the 2016 Grassroots Radio Conference in Hot Springs
have been so helpful. Kenya Lewis from San Francisco was at that GRC and we
follow one another and talk on Facebook. So when I started trying to figure
out what was going on in Louisville, the site of two racist police murders
in the past four months, Kenya suggested I talk to WXOX General Manager
Sharon Scott, whom I no doubt met in Hot Springs but didn't remember. Kenya
connected me to Sharon, Sharon connected me to DJ Tia Coakley, and now the
three of us are having an ongoing conversation.

I think this demonstrates the value of both the Pacifica Network and the
GRC. 😼
