Job Posting: Radio Producer/ Trainer/ Journalist

The Center For International Media Action is accepting applications for a
radio journalist to spearhead a new collaborative project in Philadelphia
between ten small community radio stations in the region. This project
will take highlights of Covid related coverage from shows on the ten radio
stations, and combine them into an hour long program per week which will be
broadcast on the ten stations.

The responsibilities of this job will be to provide mentorship and critical
feedback to the shows on the different stations, and help pick highlights
from them and produce a weekly hour long program that can be shared around
the whole city. The initial focus will be the Covid-19 crisis and its
aftermath, but we hope that the collaboration will continue on after the
crisis has passed. This is not an opportunity for a follower. You will have
to be a leader to spearhead and develop the shows on the member stations,
and the new collaborative show. The job is as much to mentor citizen
journalists as it is to produce the shows. Funding is in place for the
project through December, and if we are successful will continue into the
future.

This position will require experience as a radio journalist, strong
teaching skills, management of volunteers, ability to work under deadline
and set deadlines for volunteer citizen journalists. Applicants should be
familiar with free tools like Audacity and have strong enough computer and
audio production skills to assist others. Applicants should be capable of
giving compassionate feedback to build the skills of volunteers who want to
work in radio but have no formal training yet.

Compensation is $34,000 to $40,000 per year, depending on experience.
Compensation package may be negotiated to include health insurance or other
benefits balanced with salary. We are open to breaking this into two half
time jobs, if that is preferable. We are open to less experienced
applicants who may lack one or two key skills but have strong leadership
qualities. For instance, we might consider an experienced journalist with a
background in training volunteer citizen journalists, but limited
experience in audio production. The job is in Philadelphia, mostly you
can work from home, but there is office space available. If you are not
from Philadelphia, you can start by working remotely, but you would be
expected to move here when social distancing has ended. We may be able to
help with transitional housing if you need to relocate. Spanish language is
a big plus.

If you would like to apply, send a resume, cover letter, and sample of your
work to Pete Tridish (petri<at>imarad.io) at the Center For International
Media Action. (www.imarad.io) Every Kind of Everybody capable of leading
this project is encouraged to apply, discriminators are total losers as far
as we are concerned. Deadline: June 4. Please send resume, cover letter,
and samples of written and audio work.

A description of the project below:
All participating stations will develop at least one regular show with
Covid 19 related content of a local nature, relevant to their
neighborhood. This might be an existing show refocused, or a new show.
Focus could be on how the crisis is affecting that neighborhood, local
efforts to help, resources that people should realize are there, and
providing solid public health information to prevent rumors and scams. It
could include, for example, interviews with local nurses, people who are
sewing masks, efforts to provide childcare for health workers, mental
health support, and all the ways that people are reacting to this crisis.
Even after social distancing is relaxed, these stations can continue to
play a large role in knitting together the community, strengthening our
institutions to prevent another outbreak, facing the economic impact of the
crisis together, and building a fair economy with more of a safety net
after the crash. We will take weekly highlights from all the shows on
different stations and produce one show that can be carried on all
stations.
