A video with a transcript of that interview is available at: https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Media_reform_per_Freepress.net I posted a 29-minute condensation of that to audioport. In brief, Aaron suggested we ask all kinds of people if they are concerned about the decline in local news and if yes what would they support to remedy the problems this is creating. Within the past few weeks, I've sent emails to 22 politicians who officially represent me at the city, county, state and federal levels and followed up with phone calls. Other members of this committee have contacted other community leaders. The notes on what I've done are available at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ycGmSdW12Hgk0EX955BXOAUCzQgBcmlnGSuvU2Kosfg/edit?usp=sharing The NJCIC is funded at 6 cents per person per year in New Jersey, which is roughly 1 part per million of the Gross State Product of New Jersey. With a comparable budget the investigative journalism organization amaBhungane forced the resignation of President Zuma of South Africa for political corruption. By comparison, the US Postal Service Act of 1792 was funded at roughly 0.2 percent of the US economy (Gross Domestic Product, GDP), and McChesney and Nichols suggest that this subsidy made a major difference in encouraging literacy and limiting political corruption, both of which helped the brand new United States of American stay together and grow while contemporary New Spain / Mexico fractured, shrank and stagnated economically. https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/The_Great_American_Paradox I can discuss this via a Zoom meeting any time there is interest.
