While the percentage of Australian five year olds who are fully immunised is high at 94.20%, which is close to the target of 95% (Source: Department of Health and Aged Care), a recent study by Unicef found that confidence in childhood vaccines has been falling since the COVID-19 pandemic. With that in mind, this content, edited from ?talkback? style radio programs on the topic of childhood immunisation, is geared towards improving confidence in childhood vaccination. Those programs have been edited into single question and answer format audio and social media content for use by any radio station that feels this issue is of importance and concern to their listeners. Each piece ranges between 90 seconds and 5 minutes and has been produced by various First Nations radio stations as well as Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, South Asian English, Punjabi, Spanish and Vietnamese broadcasters. If listening to this content inspires you to produce your own programming on the topic, the Department has an online resource you can refer to here: Childhood Immunisation, your questions answered . First of all we do have confirmations on several venues. Our plan is to have the conference occur in multiple venues, giving people an opportunity to stretch their legs and stroll around the coolest part of town. No venue will be more than 5 minutes walking distance from one place to another. People wil be able to check into their hotels and get to the venues in a matter of minutes. Each morning WTSQ will provide coffee and a breakfast snack at the newly renovated Kanawha County Public Library Coffee shop. The vendor there is Ma Cuppa Coffee. There are multiple locations in Charleston, library, capitol market, and Elk City district that will honor your status as a GRC attendee and ring your coffee up on our account. The venues will be assigned to presenters probably at the last minute once we get an idea of who is coming and what their primary interests are. We currently have about 8 presenters confirmed, and this includes many of you who volunteered during the last GRC meeting. Please reach out to me directly Damon at WTSQ with more info on your presentations names, titles of presentation, and any other info you would like to have included in the website. If you'd like to send a headshot I can include that as well. SPonsors are still in the works, we are working locally with several organizations. and I've reached out to some previous GRC sponsors. BUT PLEASE, share contact info if you have leads on other sponsors who ought to be present with me as soon as possible so we can nail them down. As for travel and lodging I will be posting details about this on the website. to be launched shortly. Our airport is CRW. YEager International. We have direct flights to Washington, CHarlotte, Chicago, Atlanta, Orlando, and CHarleston SC. I am meeting with the CVB director this Friday to see how they can help with rooming and discounts for our participants. There are several hotels in the downtown area that we will target to keep everything within walking distance. I am also including some locations for camping on the website for folks who want to commune with the streams and forests while they are in WV! The cost of the GRC will be $195 for early bird registration and this will be the rate that participants pay as we intend to absorb taxes and fees from eventbrite. LAter registration fees will increase to $145 with the same arrangement for taxes and fees being paid by WTSQ. I will announce, to this group when we go live! I will definitely be in the next meeting so I look forward to talking with you all in a couple weeks, but please share as much info as possible so that we can get this GRC in order. -- *-Damon Cater* President WTSQ 88.1 FM - *The Status Quo* 304-678-4159 <304-610-5666> wtsq.org From damon at wtsq.org Wed Jul 5 11:19:20 2023 From: damon at wtsq.org (Damon Cater) Date: Wed, 5 Jul 2023 14:19:20 -0400 Subject: [grc] Answers to Questions from the last meeting In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Corrections. Message-ID: <453582b58b487243ebe8f245b8e92d3c@artxfm.com> ATTENTION Friends of Community Radio, This November 1 - 8, the FCC will open a new LOW POWER FM application Window. During this time, nonprofit organizations will be have the rare opportunity to build new radio station and get local voices on the FM dial! THERE ARE JUST a FEW MONTHS before the window opens. Therefore, WE ALL need to work as hard as possible to get the word out and CLAIM THESE FREQUENCIES FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. It is possible that the most important thing you can do for Democracy right now is TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW about this opportunity and encourage them to apply. Spread the word at record stores, music venues, community centers, educational institutions, and more! The frequencies that are not claimed by local nonprofits will likely go to church groups and commercial translators. THERE WILL NOT BE ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY (at least anytime soon). Over the past six months I have been working on an LPFM HANDBOOK that makes building and operating an LPFM Radio Station easy and fun! Contributors include community radio giants such as Pete Tridish (Radio Mutiny), Ursula Rudenberg (Pacifica Affiliates Network), David Klann (Broadcast Tool & Die), and Todd Urick (Common Frequency). While the book is LPFM specific, it has good advice & interesting antidotes for everyone involved with community radio! The manuscript is currently in the final editorial phase and will be print just ahead of the LPFM window. Copies are available for pre-order now: LOW POWER FM for DUMMIES https://www.amazon.com/Low-Power-Dummies-Sharon-Scott/dp/1394185324/ In meantime, potential applicants should check-out this new companion website NOW as it will help them get started on their journey: LPFM Resources http://lpfmresources.com/ Once their applications are approved, the nonprofit organizations will have THREE YEARS to get their station on the air. The important thing now is just to GET THOSE APPLICATIONS submitted during the upcoming window -- they can figure the rest out from there! Thank you for your help getting the word out about this and your commitment to amplifying the POWER of COMMUNITY RADIO!!! Please reach out with questions at any time! LET'S SEIZE THE AIRWAVES!!!! *************************** Sharon M. Scott Co-Founder & General Manager ARTxFM / WXOX 97.1 FM P.O. Hope you all are making your plans to attend the GRC 2023 in Charelston, West Virginia. WTSQ is doing a great job laying plans for what may be one of the best conferences ever and it will just be so wonderful to be together IN-PERSON once again! While this year's conference will have a track especially for new LPFM applicants ahead of the November window, the GRASSROOTS RADIO IS OPEN TO ALL COMMUNITY RADIO STATIONS -- staff, board, and supporters. It is always such a wonderful place to exchange ideas and share war stories (and goodness knows we all have a lot of those now). Plus, Charleston is a very beautiful, walkable town with so much nature to explore! Check out the article from Radio World below to see how things are shaping up. I'm certain you all will be impressed with the keynote speaker and the scheduled showcase of bands. As always, the GRC is a very participatory conference where many of the attendees are also presenters. If you have a topic to share, or a concept for a panel, we would love to hear about it! Please send your ideas to Damon at wtsq.org To find out more about the speakers, events, travel arrangements, and hotel accommodations, follow the link to the official website below. Please reach out if you have any questions. We are looking forward to seeing everyone this October!!!
