[grc] Fwd: [stationmanagers] If You Distribute a Show in Audioport.og - Please read

I believe there is only partial overlap between the GRC list and Pacifica
affiliate membership. I am forwarding this because the risk of
broadcasting programming that violates FCC rules applies to all
broadcasters (and also cable and TV - so far, I don't see podcasts on the
list). The FCC used to have a list of 7 deadly words, but nowadays they
are more vague about some things - although sexual and excretory functions
are explicitly forbidden unless in a medical context. The most
understandable description of what's likely not safe to broadcast that I've
found is from PRX:

FCC violations in content in Audioport have increased. If things continue
at this rate, Audioport.org will lose its viability as a program service.
This has been a great, vibrant service that has spawned new generations of
grassroots programming. But if confidence is lost in this as a safe
service, we could lose it all.

WE RELY ON YOU AS A PRODUCER / DISTRIBUTOR TO KEEP AUDIOPORT VIABLE. This
is a self-uploaded website. It is done in trust. Also, we do not have the
capacity to listen to every show that is uploaded. You as the distributor
must do that before posting your content.

Here is information on regulations
<https://pacificanetwork.org/fcc-irs-regulations/>

When uploading a show, we ask you to confirm that your show is FCC
compliant. This agreement is requested in order to upload the show.
HOWEVER: Recently, it has become clear that many producers are not
listening to the entire contents of their show. One producer recently
actually knew there were violations and just went ahead anyway, presumably
misrepresenting the show when asked if it was compliant.

Folks, if I sound a bit hot under the collar, it is because I am.

First of all it is a big waste of our valuable time to hunt down FCC
violations. *But more than that, the violations put our stations at risk,
put Pacifica at risk, and undermine Audioport's viability. We do not make
these laws but we are liable.*

SO PLEASE:
*Listen to your show*. If you have a music show, most lyrics can be also
easily googled online. No excuse for violations in lyrics.

If there are violations DO NOT POST it. Audioport asks you point blank
while you are uploading to confirm there are no violations. *That means no
violations, period. No exceptions! *

Shows with violations will be deleted and your account may be removed from
Audioport. The risk is too great for us all.

Thank you for your attention and please forgive my directness. Let's all
keep intact this great tradition of cooperation in Audioport. Please do
your part.
