For an unknown reason, list admin access has been removed for Stephanie and me, so we're currently limited in the things we can do (administratively) on the existing list. As a reminder, we have until July 1, 2024 to make this move. The Mailman server reports there are currently "397 Non-digested Members" (3 of which are "private" and I can't see their email addresses), and "69 Digested Members" (2 of which are "private"). I am prepared to auto-subscribe all 466 visible email addresses to a new list at Riseup.net. A few folks suggested polling everyone, asking if they want to be subscribed to the new list server. That seems to me like a lot of unnecessary work, so I'm asking here on this list: do you want me to ask each and every current subscriber if they want to be subscribed to the new list? I have seen cases, including here, where a mass subscription by the administrator got people upset, but that is not the situation here. The situation here is that everyone wants it to continue as it has been, changing as little as possible. This says to just do it the easy way and mass transfer the old to the new, keeping digest subscribers as digest, and non-digest as non-digest. I have another question ... what about the archive? The list has a full archive, going many years back. This archive could be lost in the move unless somebody does something to preserve it. We need to make sure the archive is preserved. I just checked on The Internet Archive and learned that there's a full copy of the GRC mailing list archive through February 10, 2020. I don't know if it's possible to request a fresh "pull" at archive.org, but if it is, this might be a good place for the GRC mailing list archive for the past 10 years. ~David -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... After a disappointing experience trying to set up the new mailing list at riseup.net, I decided to look at what MayFirst.coop offers. They offer several tech services, including a Mailman mailing list server (same software as the current one) and others. The reason I didn't go for MayFirst from the start is that riseup.net is no cost, and MayFirst has a cost associated with it ($63 per year). The dismal experience at riseup.net made me think that the cost might be worth it. I brought up this issue and the idea of using MayFirst at the Tuesday (May 28th) GRC zoom meetup and people we quite supportive, even to the point of several offering to pay for a year of service. So ... I've submitted an application for membership (which must be reviewed by humans). I'll let y'all know what I learn about MayFirst in the next few days. Thanks everyone for your support and patience in this transition! Best, ~David -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
