The 19th Grassroots Radio Conference is just a few weeks away! There's

PALENVILLE, NY

WLPP-LP 102.9 in Palenville NY is hosting the 19th annual National 
Grassroots Radio Conference (GRC), an information exchange for community 
radio operators and listeners. Approximately 150 attendees are expected 
from throughout North America. There will be workshops and training labs 
for organizations with and creative new ways to develop their community 
radio stations.
Founded in 1996, GRC’s mission is preserving the grassroots nature of 
community radio and developing this medium. The conference is hosted at 
different locations each year, hosted locally by a community radio 
station in that area. 16 stations have hosted GRC.

The conference will be held in the hamlet of Palenville, NY at the 
Maetreum of Cybele who owns WLPP-LP 102.9FM. Activities begin at noon on 
Thursday,September 24 with a pizza, pasta and veggie party in the 
Maetreum. The conference ends on Sunday at noon.WLPP-LP invites and 
encourages local residents to attend some or all of the conference. A

said Cathryn Platine, manager of WLPP-LP, "We hope area residents will 
take part and gain a greater appreciation of how lucky we are to have 
WLPP-LP to serve the needs of our beloved hamlets in the Catskills."

Just a few months old, WLPP-LP began broadcasting just this past June 
and is located in downtown Ames. WLPP-LP is an all-volunteer based 
community radio station dedicated to serving the many communities in the 
area. The station’s mission is to: “Build community through 
communication.”
WLPP-LP is a member of Pacifica Radio Network, the major broadcast 
network for community radio. Currently the network includes 
approximately 200 grassroots stations throughout the North American 
continent, Hawaii, Virgin Islands, and a few European cities. Pacifica 
Foundation distributes radio content and offers other management 
services to its affiliates.
