For most of us, those other formats are worse.
You need a better email reader, and you need to switch to non-digest
mode.
With a decent email reader, subscribing to lists NOT as a digest, you
can direct all of the messages from a list into a folder, with a
separate folder for each list. The email reader can arrange the posts
into threads, grouping those on the same subject together and showing
the sequence.

Please have some sympathy for those stuck with digest mode!
How you send your followups makes a big difference to those reading the
digest. So-called "top-posting" where you say something at the top and
re-send the previous message below means that people reading the digest
will see it over and over. It's a big mess.
So trim your responses. Do not repeat the post you are responding to,
except for just enough to give context to what you are saying.
