Dear GRC members,
After much soul-searching this past summer, I decided to resign from my position as Assistant Director for Independent Media, whose primary responsibility is providing guidance and oversight of KCSB-FM, UCSB students' 54-year-old independent community radio station. The Assistant Director for Independent Media's responsibilities also include providing guidance and oversight of The Bottom Line newspaper, and all media outlets for UCSB’s Associated Students department.
I am writing to alert you that the position has just posted to the UCSB HR website (www.hr.ucsb.edu), where you can apply. My last day is December 31, 2015. As a fierce advocate of independent radio, I will continue my relationship with KCSB as a volunteer programmer.
A little about the radio station: KCSB-FM, the Santa Barbara area’s only independent, community access radio station, is a student-funded and -operated noncommercial, educational radio station that has been broadcasting for 54 years. Housed on the University of California’s campus, KCSB provides UCSB students and community members the opportunity to learn he fundamentals of radio broadcasting and to explore more advanced aspects of broadcasting and the audio medium, and it strives to ensure that these opportunities are offered to a diverse community, especially people who are traditionally underrepresented in broadcasting.
For its listeners, KCSB strives to provide programming that is stimulating, informative and generally unavailable from other local media. KCSB's news and public affairs programming places emphasis on providing a forum for underrepresented and/or controversial perspectives on important local, national and international issues. Its cultural arts and music programming cover a wide spectrum of expression from traditional to experimental which reflect the diverse community which KCSB serves.
