Jeff:

What is it that a station wants to get around ?

NPR is a nonprofit corporation with member stations, They may sek $$$ but
to be a member you are required to be non-commercial or non-commercial
educational radio stations, have at least five full-time professional
employees, operate for at least 18 hours per day, and not be designed
solely to further a religious broadcasting philosophy or be used for
classroom distance learning programming. Yes indeed some stations use
words like "subscribers" "donors" and "even members, but the defaul
situation is lhat many state have nonprofit law which requires that
a nonprofitk corporations must to include a proviision like

-------------------

A corporation is not required to have members. A corporation shall have no
members if its articles of
incorporation or bylaws include a statement that
the corporation shall have no members
  or words of similar importthe

but sometiimes they say that no way do subscribers, donord or members get
the rigt to vote at the corporate electons.
