I have been going with the BW broadcast 300 watt transmitters. Nautel
is great, but it is about $1000 more for very similar functionality.

Nautel is like a BMW you can't go wrong except that it costs a lot.
the BWbroadcasts that i have installed have all worked without a
hitch. it's a good company, not quite as big but they are not fly by
night, they have been selling radio equipment since at least the late 90s.

bwbroadcast has built in processing, remote management over ip. they
are simpler and more stripped down than the Nautel advanced user
interface, which was designed for use with transmitters that might be as
big as 50,000 watts. but for your purposes , i think the bw broadcast is
totally sufficient.

the coolest advantage of nautel is that if you plug it in to the web the
tchnicians can check it out remotely and tell you what parts of th
transmitter are broken. very clever.

i don't think the nautel is worth the higher price tag. from everything
i can see, the bw broadcast will last many years if installed correctly.

I have for some time thought 26 MHz DRM broadcasting might be a good first spectrum slice to pioneer. I recently saw a paper on a study, in Brazil I think, where the conclusion was that a large city studied would have good service at an ERP of less than 5 KW.
