*Request for Proposals: Volunteer Opportunity*
*Alameda Community Radio (KACR) – Program Direction Intern*
Alameda Community Radio (ACR) was granted a construction permit by the FCC
to build a Low-Power FM radio station in Alameda, California. Soon, Alameda
Community Radio will be broadcasting as KACR at 96.1 FM.
We are looking for a savvy intern (unfortunately unpaid) to curate and
improve our Internet stream for this transitional period. Specifically, we
want someone to explore syndicated audio programming with an emphasis on
compelling public affairs and arts and cultural programming to identify
content that will engage our Alameda audience, isn't repetitively offered
on other accessible outlets, and can help to brand our specific identity
and value to Alamedans as we move toward terrestrial broadcast and the
generation of truly local programming.
*Qualifications: *Some hands-on experience in radio (either community-based
or other radio) is preferred but not necessary, a familiarity or
willingness to research both Bay Area tastes and the specific nature of
Alameda as a distinct community in the region, good awareness of the other
radio offerings in the area, and some knowledge of podcasts and other
available content options.
You will work under the supervision of a seven-member board of directors
that meets in the evening or on Saturday afternoons, and may have to attend
a board meeting occasionally. Otherwise the work schedule is flexible,
although we are looking to upgrade our Internet stream quickly.
*What You Receive:* Working on the creation and operation of a
market/city-specific audio stream is great experience. If the project is
successful and creates a noticeable uptick in listeners, this will provide
valuable resume experience for Internet communications positions. Plus you
get to be a big part of building a new local radio station!
*How To Apply:* Please send a letter with a little bit about you, why you
think you might want to take this on, what previous experience you bring to
the table, and what you think makes an Internet audio stream compelling and
listenable. Send letter to *info at alamedacommunityradio.org
