[grc] Is this underwriting message compliant

Hi Mary,

For many reasons (see a few of them below), I would recommend this
version:

This hour of Democracy Now! receives support from Home Creations, an
Oklahoma based home builder located in ______________, creating custom
homes since 19__. Consultations and more information available on-line at
HomeCeartions.com.

The original message is too long to fit into a 15 second spot.
Without rushing, read the above aloud and time yourself. This is just
about right for 15 seconds.

Another difficulty with overly long messages is that the core
information tends to become lost. What you want the listener to
remember are three important points:

1. Who it is that is supporting their favorite programming.

2. What it is that they offer.

3. How to get in touch with them

I would leave off the "w w w dot" on the URL. It takes up time, it is
unnecessary to type it in to your browser, and it is inferred when you
state that the contact is "on-line". Also "visit our website at" is a
call to action. "More information available on-line at
HomeCeartions.com" achieves the same purpose without that specific
conflict.

A last couple of points. The FCC restricts nonprofits from running
advertising. So, a slogan can be allowed as long as it is not
coercive or a call to action, and it is demonstrable that this is a
longstanding slogan of the underwriter. I would avoid using a music
bed. While not specifically prohibited, that is one of the easiest
ways to make your announcement sound exactly like an advertisement.
And commercial advertising is precisely one of the things that your
listeners are tuning in to your station to avoid.
