[grc] Trouble with Winamp

I've been using Winamp for years with no problems with freezing up,
etc.  Probably a hardware issue with your computer. Would suggest
cleaning gold contacts on your memory modules.
Winamp has a powerful command-line programming plugin called
CLAMP.EXE.  It allows automating Winamp commands by using Unix/Linux
shell scripts.

Using Clamp in scripts, one can implement many of the automation
features that services like Airtime Pro, for example, provide.

Actually, I had used Winamp as "automation" for a streaming station
for
 awhile.

But, Winamp is a MP3 player, not a radio automation system.

I would strongly suggest considering running Rivendell. Rivendell
runs
under Linux and may have a few challenges to install but once it is
going, it is rock solid. Rivendell is free and there's quite a few of

us on this list who are running it.

If we do get a Grassroots Radio Conference this year (which will
likely
be on the east coast), I would strongly suggest attending. We
normally
 have workshops on Rivendell.

Often, when programmers arrive, Winamp is frozen. We usually can
reboot and get it started, but it seems to be freezing more and more
often and at present, will not allow CDs and the mic to play through
it.

would that be? Is Rivendell a good option? What are the pluses and
minuses?
