& Democracy

Dear Media Activist Friends,

       My new Congressional representative is Xochitl Torres Small. (NM02)
She is a water attorney with an infectious smile. Just over a month ago I
wrote her a letter outlining five critical issues.  (That letter is
attached.)

      Media Justice was third on my list. If Congress, the House,
especially, held hearings on Media and Democracy what should it look like?
Who should attend to present testimony?  Can we collectively make it happen?

      I did get letters (emails) off to the other Representatives who I
mention in the letter. Deb Haaland (NM01), with whom I have had contact in
recent years was especially gracious in response. I did mean to get a note
off to you activists whom I mention in the letter, but other things
intervened.

       But now:
1) This case is before the Supreme Court this term:

A decision against Halleck has the potential to eliminate all PEG channels.
Deedee Halleck mentioned on FB the other day that 50% of Democracy Now!'s
outlets are via PEG.  And so much more!!!
2)  Today is day one of a week boycott of FB called by the NAACP due to
FB's racism. There are no POC on its Board. Two more white men were
appointed just this year.
3)  How has this loyalty oath law against boycotting Isreal made products
passed through 26 state legislatures with no media coverage?

          So, I am widening my list of who I am sending this out to.  I
urge each one of you to contact your House Representative to urge such
hearings.
