For real, indeed, Ann: if anyone should be concerned about the attacks on freedom of the
press as exemplified by the attacks on Julian Assange, it should be Pacifica.
I hope the PNB does not wait to hear you ask: if Pacifica means anything, it means the right
of the press - radio, tv, print, online, whatever - to receive, accept, and broadcast the truth.
The U.S. wants to quell Assange for disseminating the information that the US government
killed civilians - murdered them - and has not disowned the policies that created those murders.
We all owe Assange a great debt: he is a hero for what he has done for the freedom of information
that every “democracy” must exemplify or else give up the title and admit their true nature.
And if Pacifica cannot support him, and Snowden, it should indeed fold its shutters and go out of business.
