[grc] Pacifica By-laws Reform

Hi all,
I would agree with Tom's statement that this post is completely
inappropriate for GRC. Besides the technical matter that the petition is
fake because the bylaws amendment proposed will never be
submitted because the timeline contained in it is impossible to carry out,
the proposal is antithetical to everything GRC has said for more than two
decades. Removing the prohibition against selling
station frequencies without a vote of the members is a non-starter. And
placing that decision solely in the hands of six unelected people is what
we fought against. The proposal is also severely
anti-worker and needs to be opposed by anyone who believes in worker
rights. Removing the indemnification of Pacifica employees against lawsuit
protection means that any individual named in a
lawsuit against Pacifica including managers, program directors, and
programmers would be forced to hire their own attorneys and pay their own
attorneys fees. I suspect that violates all the union
contracts in existence, all the management contracts in existence, and even
if it doesn't, it is morally reprehensible.
Most of the people signing this simply aren't reading it and are believing
misrepresentations about what it says. I'm not even sure most of the
people hawking it have read it. If they have, they should
be ashamed of themselves.
