[grc] The return of VOA programming to shortwave radio?

It’s very expensive to deploy, & there are international coordination issues to deal with.  Most U.S. based-shortwave stations are either religious ministries, and/or sell blocks of time to almost anyone with the cash.

This was a wonderful progressive shortwave effort based in Costa Rica, which folded in 2003.  We were going to volunteer there.

The quintessence of radio! Given the news about this and the BBC, we just fired up our shortwave receiver this week to tinker around with it here in Madison, Wisconsin. 

 

Does anyone know how, exactly, shortwave licenses are distributed? Has anyone had any success in broadcasting in shortwave? A massive project, to be sure, but I'm curious. I haven't been able to find definitive information online.
