First, we must have a 2023 GRC. It should be somewhere. Anywhere is
better than nowhere.
Somewhere that would have the least impact to travel ...... Maybe we
need more than one.
Considering that it has been so long since the last one, it's time to
come back with a boom, not a flicker. Let's have 5 regionals in
2013.
A regional conference can be, and probably should be, smaller than a
national conference. It could even be one day, with one thread.
Anything goes. It could be tied to some project or event. A
"barn-raising". This doesn't have to be a new station. It could be an
old station building a new studio, or something like that. It could
focus on a particular topic. One regional conference could be all
news. Another could be all legal matters. Yet another could be all
tech. Anything goes. Use your imagination.
Perhaps the best part of this scheme is that you don't need anyone's
permission to do it. You don't need to work with people you don't
like. There is no committee, no application, no rules, no steering
committee. You can do it the way you want to do it.
Also, if you are thinking politics (ours, not the national politics).
You don't want to step on anyone's toes. Think again. "Just do it"
goes back to the roots of GRC. This is what the "founders" of the
conference would want. This is what the "founders" of the conference
actually did.
If you want to do it, to take this approach, don't tell me. I have no
authority in this matter. Tell the world. I will see it at the same
time as everyone else.
Whatever way it goes, let's not repeat the total disaster of a
conference that happened in 2022.
