The 2-2 deadlock at the Federal Communications Commission is finally coming
to an end. The Senate voted 55-43 on Thursday to confirm Anna Gomez to fill
the long-vacant fifth seat. Gomez becomes the first Latina on the Commission
in more than 20 years. Her confirmation will give FCC Chair Jessica
Rosenworcel the fifth vote that she will likely need to tackle several
pending controversial issues, including media ownership rules and new net
neutrality regulations. The National Association of Broadcasters has
supported Gomez’s nomination.
