Carl,

I'd suggest using Podcast Generator for your purpose:
http://www.podcastgenerator.net/

It's free, open source, and simple to use.

If you're just making podcasts for a small audience, and don't need all the
overhead of stats and other stuff, there's no reason to use a podcast
service like Libsyn. You can install Podcast Generator onto most web host
accounts. At Radio Survivor we use it to produce our broadcast-only feed
for affiliate stations hosted on our Dreamhost account, where we also host
our blog.

Frankly, you could also use Podcast Generator for hosting a public podcast,
provided you don't expect it to be super popular, and don't need the
conveniences that come with a paid host.

For our public podcast at Radio Survivor we use Blubrry, and have been
quite happy with the service. They have very good technical support, and
understand the needs of small podcasters. It also integrates very well with
Wordpress, among other CMSs.
